With caring surgical precision, Samar Elbarawy questions our beliefs, opening up our paradoxes and differences, letting our misconceptions and complicities be seen. All the differences that define mankind. Samar Elbarawy’s work evokes women’s light-hearted conversations and looks at the relationships between men and woman in Arab societies. Her video installations are simple and precise, and they reflect the complexity, paradoxes and expectations of a changing society and compare these with a globalised image of the ideal woman and her misconceptions.

The videos made during her residency were exhibited at the Fondation Vasarely (at the end of her stay) and Instants Video Festival in november 2012. (exhibition’s pictures : Carlos Casteleira)
